German manufacturer Nordex has signed a preliminary deal to invest in manufacturing in the southern Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, starting with a facility to build towers for wind turbines.
Nordex executives and state governor Eduardo Leite signed the memorandum of understanding during a visit to the company’s offices in Hamburg, Germany.
The company promised to work with local universities in research and development and training for the workforce, and the state government promised to facilitate the environmental approval of the factory and to study tax incentives for the investment.
“Rio Grande do Sul’s future lies with renewable energy. We have a huge potential to be explored and we are ready to facilitate the conditions for this and other private investments in the area,” the governor said.
Nordex already operates a plant producing N163/5.X turbines in the northern Brazilian state of Bahia.
