Chinese manufacturer Goldwind has secured an order for a wind farm in the Philippines.
It is due to supply, commission and service 17 of its GW 165-6.0MW turbines for developer the Blue Circle’s 100.8MW Kalayaan 2 wind farm in Laguna province.
Commercial operations are due to begin in 2026.
Goldwind described the deal – its first for a wind farm in the Philippines – as a “breakthrough”.
The Philippines has 443MW of operational onshore wind capacity, according to “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Intelligence, the research and data division of “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç.
It aims to have renewables account for 35% of its power mix by 2030 and 50% by 2040. Renewables accounted for 22.4% of the Philippines' electricity generation in 2021, according to the International Energy Agency.
