Energiequelle commissions subsidy-free wind farm in Finland

German renewables developer Energiequelle has completed and brought online its fifth Finnish wind farm, the 45.6MW Lumivaara project.

The asset has also been handed over to its new owner, Commerz Real, which has acquired it for its KlimaVest fund. It becomes KlimaVest’s fourth operational Finnish wind farm which together provide more than 170MW.

Lumivaara is located in Hyrynsalmi, Kainuu, 560km north-east of Helsinki, and comprises eight of Nordex’s 5.7MW turbines

Like Energiequelle's other Finnish wind farms, it was built without any state support.

“We are proud to have completed the company's fifth wind farm in Finland, which is also our first project in eastern Finland," said Nils Borstelmann, managing director of Energiequelle in Finland.

Nordex is responsible for ongoing maintenance, while Energiequelle retains responsibility for Lumivaara’s technical and commercial management.
