Project developers Oracle Power and Oracle Energy have begun an environmental and social impact assessment for their planned renewable energy site at Jhimpir in Sindh Province, Pakistan. Testing and certification firm SGS Pakistan will conduct the study.
The project proposes up to 1.3GW of capacity, including Pakistan’s largest wind farm, at 500MW, plus 800MW of solar energy and 450MWh of battery storage.
The study will consider the renewable power aspect, with subsequent phases focusing on the chemical and transmission components. It will include public consultation, engagement with key stakeholders and detailed environmental management and performance monitoring plans for the construction and operating phases.
The final report will be presented to the Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (Sindh EPA) for review.
Naheed Memon, CEO of Oracle, said: "The commencement of the ESIA Study, in order to obtain clearance from the national environmental agency and endorsement from international stakeholders, marks a very important milestone in the development pathway of our green energy project."
