Technology giant Amazon has signed a deal to buy more electricity from Ocean Winds’ 882MW Moray West offshore wind farm in the Scottish North Sea.
Its latest corporate power purchase agreement with Engie – one of the Ocean Winds joint venture partners, alongside EDF Renewables – means it is now signed up to buy output from a 473MW portion of the wind farm when it becomes operational later this year.
The latest agreement to buy output from a 123MW portion of the wind farm follows an earlier agreement for output from a 350MW portion of the project.
Amazon aims to use renewables for 100% of its electricity needs by 2025. At the end of 2022, it was sourcing 90%, a spokesman told “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç.
Jeff Bezos’ company has been Europe and the UK’s largest corporate purchase of renewable energy since 2021, according to BloombergNEF.
Amazon is not the only technology giant due to buy power from Moray West: Google is set to buy output from a 100MW portion through a 12-year deal.
Ocean Winds also secured a contract for difference for a 220.5MW portion of Moray West in the UK’s 2022 tender.
