Necochea has taken up the role of floating systems integration strategy director at BlueFloat Energy. He joins the offshore wind developer from Vestas where he had been the Danish turbine firm's lead advisor on floating wind since 2019.
In a Linkedin post announcing the move Necochea said his role was aimed at scaling floating wind to make commercial projects a reality.
“I am confident that we are poised to revolutionise the industry,” he said.
Floating wind energy remains on the frontier of the global wind industry with Equinor’s 88MW Hywind Tampen the largest currently in operation.
Floating wind is expected to be an essential industry for the future of the green transition, in particular for regions with deep coastal waters not suitable for fixed-bottom offshore wind projects, such as California, Japan, and Portugal.
BlueFloat said Necochea would “bring an invaluable strategic perspective complementing the existing functions and the team of technical experts at the corporate level,” to the company’s operations.
The firm cited Necochea’s decade in offshore wind, which before Vestas also included a four-year spell as a business development manager at German turbine maker Senvion.
