Turkey’s largest wind project will incorporate a battery storage facility after a new deal was signed between Turkish energy company Polat Enerji and compatriot Partner EGS.
The 328MW Soma onshore wind complex – Turkey's largest operational wind project, according to “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Intelligence, the research and data division of “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç – will host a 4MW/4MWh battery storage project onsite under the terms of the deal.
Partner EGS has a long-term supplier relationship with Chinese technology major Huawei. As part of the deal, the Turkish tech firm will combine its own software with hardware provided by Huawei.
The project will represent Turkey’s first grid-scale storage system of its kind, Neşet Özgür Cireli, board member at Polat Enerji, claimed.
The IEA recently highlighted grid connection improvements and increased battery storage as key challenges to the wider integration of new wind power projects worldwide.
