Floating offshore wind specialist Hexicon names new technology chief

Swedish floating offshore wind developer and platform designer Hexicon has named Guilherme Nunes as its new chief technology officer.

Nunes joined the company in 2018 and has worked in various roles – most notably a project manager that worked on projects across multiple geographies.

As chief technology officer, he will lead “Hexicon’s technological vision”, foster innovation in the company’s project portfolio and guide the evolution of its TwinWind technology, the company stated.

Hexicon has developed a semi-submersible twin-rotor platform – TwinWind – comprising a triangular shaped lattice-steel structure with single-point mooring and two upwind turbines per foundation. These units are mounted on outward-facing inclined towers and operate in equal, clockwise rotational mode.

It is also helping to develop a 17GW pipeline of floating offshore wind projects worldwide.

Renewable energy analysts Aegir Insights have flagged Hexicon as being one of the leading platform designers “well positioned to capture early market capacity” in the nascent floating offshore wind sector.
