Australian financial services group Macquarie Asset Management has acquired 50% of Italian utility Enel’s Greek renewables subsidiary.
It paid approximately €250 million to buy half of Enel Green Power Hellas, which has 566MW of onshore wind, solar and hydropower projects in operation or under construction in Greece.
Enel Green Power Hellas has also developed a pipeline of new development projects in the country, and is considering adding storage solutions and developing hybrid projects combining wind and solar.
Macquarie will now work with Enel to develop this pipeline of renewable energy projects.
Greece aims to more than double its renewables fleet to 28GW by 2030, by which time clean energy will account for 80% of its power generation mix.
