Ibereolica has obtained environmental approval for its 1.2GW ERNC Antofagasta hybrid renewables complex in northern Chile.
Located 63 kilometers northeast of the port city Taltal, the project includes a 528MW wind farm consisting of 80 6.6MW turbines as well as a 675MW photovoltaic solar plant and 15MW of battery energy storage.
“This approval marks a significant milestone in Chile’s progress to becoming a leader in renewable energy in Latin America,” the Spanish firm said.
The first phase with 297MW of installed capacity is expected to begin commercial operations in the fourth quarter of 2025.
Once completed, the complex will be the largest renewable energy facility in Chile.
“We are committed to Chile’s energy future and to carry out projects that are not only economically viable but also ecologically responsible,” said Ibereolica’s founder and chairman Gregorio Alvarez.
Ibereolica already operates the 773.9MW Cabo Leones wind farm complex in the neighboring region of Atacama, through joint ventures with France’s EDF and Spanish oil firm Repsol.
