A public consultation has launched on the spatial plan of the special purpose area for the BeoGrid 2025 project to integrate more electricity from wind farms located in Serbia's South Banat region.
Transmission system operator Elektromreža Srbije (EMS) is responsible for the project, which includes the ‘Belgrade 50’ 400/110kV substation with associated 400 kV and 110 kV connections and a double 400 kV transmission line from the substation to the South Banat region, near Masdar's 158MW Čibuk 1 wind farm.
Infrastructure works will total €90 million. The project, which is expected to be fully operational by 2025, is part of the wider North CSE corridor project.
Serbia has seven operational wind farms totalling 398MW, with all but one of the projects in South Banat.
EMS has already invested in grid upgrades to accommodate around 2.4GW of wind power currently at various stages of development. It has received grid connection requests for around 40 wind projects totalling 4.5GW.
