Japanese oil giant to buy into Enel’s Australian renewables business

Japanese oil company Inpex has signed a deal to buy half of Italian power giant Enel’s Australian renewable energy subsidiary in a deal that values Enel Green Power Australia at about €400 million.

After the transaction closes Inpex and Enel Green Power will jointly oversee Enel Green Power Australia's current renewable generation portfolio and develop its project pipeline.

Enel is currently building a 76MW wind farm in Western Australia, and is also developing a “significant” portfolio of wind, solar, storage and hybrid projects across the country.

It has at least 150MW of onshore wind under development in Australia, according to “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Intelligence, the research and data division of “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç.

Inpex – which claims to be Japan’s largest exploration and production company – has previously bought into Dutch offshore wind farms, and is also part of a consortium developing floating wind in its home market.
