Ocean Winds has bid for three areas off the coast of Gippsland, Victoria that it believes could support nearly 4GW of offshore wind capacity.
The 50:50 joint venture of EDP Renewables and Engie plans to use 20MW turbines installed on both fixed-bottom foundations and floating platforms at its Australian projects.
CEO Bautista Rodriguez said he believes that the company’s plans can help to establish a long-term supply chain for offshore wind in Australia.
It applied for three feasibility licences in the state’s tender in the first quarter of 2023. The feasibility licences would enable it to investigate the areas and proceed to securing further licences needed to build its projects.
