Floating specialist Simply Blue Group has partnered with a Dutch EPC contractor to target the nascent Greek offshore wind sector.
It has formed the ArcoBlue partnership with Archirodon – a contractor that has helped to develop about 2.5GW of renewable energy capacity, including onshore wind and solar in Greece – ahead of the country’s first offshore wind auctions.
The partners will explore the opportunities for floating offshore wind development in Greece.
They may face competition from German utility RWE, Danish investors CIP and Ocean Winds who have all already expressed interest in Greek offshore wind. The country's deep waters may necessitate the use of floating platforms rather than foundations fixed to the seabed.
Simply Blue is also developing early-stage floating wind projects off the coasts of Australia, Ireland, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Portugal, the UK and the US.
