UK-headquartered offshore wind developer Corio Generation and Norwegian firm Å Energi have launched a joint venture aimed at the country's first auction for floating offshore wind.
The Nordvegen Wind joint venture will target Norway's auction for up to 1.5GW of floating offshore wind capacity at Utsira Nord. The 1.5GW on offer will be spread across three 500MW projects.
It is one of two areas the government has opened to licensing applications – tNorway also plans to auction 1.5GW of fixed bottom offshore wind capacity at Sørlige Nordsjø II. The two firms are targeting these auctions through their Brigg Vind consortium with Norwegian firm Vårgrønn.
These are the first two large scale auctions in Norway, but the country is aiming for 30GW of offshore wind capacity by 2040.
