Grid operator Tennet received a grid-ready certificate at the end of March after conducting the final tests.

Developer Crosswind, a joint venture of Eneco and Shell, expects to connect the first of the wind farm's 69 Siemens Gamesa SG 11.0-200 DD turbines to Tennet's offshore substation, located around 20 km off the coast of Egmond aan Zee in the Netherlands, by the summer.

Full commissioning is expected by the end of the year.

According to Tennet, 12 work sites were set up in the municipalities of Heemskerk, Beverwijk and Velsen to do the grid connection work, and the project was concluded on schedule and on budget.

“The complete connection – from our transformer platform at sea to the high-voltage substation along the A9 motorway near Beverwijk – is officially ready to bring green energy ashore,” said Arjan Dams, project director of Hollandse Kust Noord.

The Dutch government targets at least 4.5GW of operating offshore wind capacity by the end of 2023, which it will achieve when this project is commissioned, but is aiming for more than 21GW by 2030 under its latest roadmap.
