Ørsted has signed a 15-year power purchase agreement to sell electricity from a 150MW portion of a Texan wind farm to internet giant Google.
The electricity will come from its 268MW Helena wind farm in Bee Country, Texas.
The deal is the first agreement that Ørsted has signed with Google in the US and the second between the two companies globally.
“Google’s leadership in the investment of renewable energy and commitment to advancing 24/7 carbon-free energy by 2030 sets a strong example for companies across the globe and we look forward to helping them achieve that ambition,” said Monica Testa, head of origination at Ørsted Americas.
Helena began operating in mid-2022 after an investment of almost $500 million. Ørsted did not confirm when the Google PPA was due to start.
Ørsted already sells power from the wind farm to consumer goods producer Henkel.
