US renewables developer AES Corporation has submitted an environmental impact study for a new renewables complex in northern Chile consisting of large wind and solar farms backed by a huge battery.
The Pampas Hybrid Park is due to comprise a 252MW solar PV park, a 140MW wind farm and a battery energy storage system with capacity to store 624MW for up to five hours.
AES plans to use twenty 7MW turbines at the wind farm.
Construction is expected to begin in 2024 with commercial operations beginning in 2026.
Energy generated during the day will be stored in the batteries and released during the night.
The company is also due to begin commercial operations at its 68MW Mesamávida and 145.2MW Campo Lindo wind farms in southern Chile later this year.
