The 319.2MW Monte Verde I-VI complex in the northern Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Norte is the largest in all of the markets where the company operates.
Monte Verde I-VI has been brought online along with the 79.8MW Boqueirão I-II and 180.6MW Jerusalém I-VI complexes.
In total, the three clusters have 136 turbines with a total installed capacity of 578.8MW. They will produce enough electricity to power a city of 1.5 million inhabitants, the company claimed. It has not confirmed the turbine supplier for the complexes.
EDPR already has an additional 800MW of operational wind capacity in Rio Grande do Norte, plus another 300MW under construction.
“We will continue to monitor the acceleration of renewable energies in Brazil, with over 7GW in wind and solar energy under development in the country, due to come onstream in the next few years," said EDP Renewables ' chief operating officer for Europe and Latin America, Duarte Bello, at an inauguration ceremony at the site.
EDPR added that the project had created more than 3,000 jobs during the construction and will support more than 80 permanent jobs through operation and maintenance of the turbines.
EDPR is the world’s fourth largest producer of solar and wind energy, operating in 28 countries in Europe, North and South America and the Asia Pacific region.
