Spanish energy giant Iberdrola to create new German unit

Iberdrola plans to create a new German subsidiary combining all its business activities in the country, including onshore and offshore wind, solar PV, hydrogen, power purchase agreements, and portfolio management services.

Felipe Montero –who has led project development of offshore wind farms in Germany and Taiwan –will be the CEO of the new Iberdrola Deutschland unit.

Montero joined Iberdrola in 2010 as an engineer on the Wikinger offshore wind farm, and has since served as project director for the Baltic Eagle wind farm. He also directed development of Northland Power’s Hai long project in the Taiwan Strait, before returning to Iberdrola in 2020.

Iberdrola Deutschland will be headquartered in Berlin, and it plans to open new offices in Hamburg, Frankfurt and Munich.

Spanish energy giant Iberdrola also has a Scottish subsidiary (Scottish Power) and majority owns a US subsidiary (Avangrid).
