Offshore wind developer Parkwind, investor Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) and port services firm NorSea have joined forces to develop floating offshore wind off the coast of Norway.
The trio confirmed they will bid for deep-water sites in the Utsira Nord area, which Norway is due to offer at tender this year.
The Norwegian government has tabled plans to tender offshore wind projects in Norway totalling 4.5GW of capacity in the first quarter of 2023 across the Sørlige Nordsjø II and Utsira Nord sites.
Parkwind’s joint bid with CIP and NorSea secured funding from Norway’s largest pension company KLP to support their proposals.
A total of 1.5GW of capacity will be auctioned at the Utsira Nord site, where deep waters necessitate the use of floating platforms. However, industry body Norwegian Offshore Wind told “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç their calculations suggest the maximum capacity at the site could be even higher.
Norway is one of Europe’s leading producers of oil and natural gas but has a stated target of reaching net zero emissions by 2050. The country has committed to achieving 30GW of offshore wind capacity by 2040.
