Ocean Winds confirms floating offshore wind bid in French Mediterranean tender

Ocean Winds has confirmed it will compete alongside investment bank Banque des Territoires in France’s tender for offshore wind in the Mediterranean Sea.

The French government is offering two sites that could each support a 250MW floating offshore wind farm, and is expected to announce winners in the third quarter of 2023.

Ocean Winds – the joint venture of EDP Renewables and Engie – had already been named as one of the eligible bidders for the Mediterranean sites

France aims to have 18GW of offshore wind capacity by 2035 and 40GW by 2050. To reach these targets, the country plans to auction 2GW of offshore wind capacity annually from 2025.
