Enel and Pan American Energy have launched construction of two new wind farms in Brazil and Chile with more than 500 MW of combined capacity.
Pan American Energy is building the 423MW Novo Horizonte wind complex in the north-eastern state of Bahia, Brazil. The project will consist of 94 of Vestas’ V150 4.5MW turbines which are expected to begin operating during the first half of 2024.
The complex is being built by construction giant Andrade Gutierrez. Brazil’s largest builder of solar energy projects. Novo Horizonte represents the company’s first 100%-managed wind energy project.
Meanwhile, Enel Green Power Chile has begun construction of its 105.6MW La Cabaña project in the southern Chilean region of La Araucanía.
The project will consist of 22 turbines with power ratings of 4.8MW as well as a 34.3MW lithium-ion battery energy storage system.
Enel Chile CEO Fabrizio Barderi said it was the company’s first wind project to use a storage system, and this should give the company “greater flexibility” in managing the plant.
