Engie Energia Chile has agreed to buy the 101MW San Pedro wind farm on the southern island of Chiloé.
The French company will pay $77 million for the project which includes a permitted expansion of up to 151MW.
Located near the town of Dalcahue, the San Pedro farm consists of a first stage featuring 18 2MW turbines which began operating in 2014, plus 13 5MW turbines which were added in 2017. It is owned by Chilean companies Transantartic and Bosques del Chile.
“The decision is part of our transformation program allowing us to add CO2-free energy and strengthening our geographical balance to supply our customers,” said CEO Axel Leveque. San Pedro would be Engie’s first wind farm in southern Chile.
Subject to approval from Chile’s competition authority, the transaction is expected to close by the end of the year.
