GE Renewable Energy will supply, install and commission 81 of its 2.7-132 onshore wind turbines for 219MW of wind power projects being developed by Continuum Green Energy in Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh, India.
The orders are from Continuum subsidiaries Continuum MP Windfarm Development and Dalavaipuram Renewables Private Limited. They follow deals last year for GE to supply turbines for Continuum’s 148.5MW Morjar (Bhuj) and 99.9MW Rajkot wind farms in Gujarat, a state on India’s west coast.
The GE 2.7-132 wind turbine is particularly suited to India’s low wind speeds, according to GE. Over the past year, the company has received close to 2GW of orders for it for Indian projects, the company said.
For the latest Continuum projects, GE said product design will largely take place at the turbine manufacturer's technology centre in Bengaluru, while blades will be manufactured in GE’s plants in Vadodara, and assembly at the company's multi-modal manufacturing facility in Pune.
Continuum is an India-focused renewable energy platform with more than 1GW of capacity operating or under construction. It is majority-owned by a global infrastructure fund managed by Morgan Stanley Infrastructure Partners.
