New York has launched a new 2GW tender for large-scale onshore wind, solar and hydro projects as the state aims to have renewables account for 70% of its electricity generation by 2030.
It is looking to procure power from new and existing projects in its sixth onshore renewables auction, governor Kathy Hochul announced
New projects should be online by May 2025 – though this can be extended to May 2028 – while existing projects commissioned since 1 January 2015 may also compete.
Auction regulator Nyserda has set a deadline for submissions of 16 November, and plans to announce winners in spring 2023.
Developers will have to meet several conditions to secure 20-year contracts, including creating jobs, providing benefits to disadvantaged communities, and using US iron and steel.
