BlueFloat boosts planned Australian offshore wind farm to 2.1GW

BlueFloat Energy and Energy Estate have announced plans to increase the capacity of their proposed Greater Gippsland wind farm from 1,275MW to 2,085MW.

The project off the coast of Victoria, south-east Australia is in one of six zones deemed suitable for offshore wind development by the government.

The developers plan to use fixed-bottom foundations at Greater Gippsland .

Nick Sankey, country manager for floating wind specialist BlueFloat said the project would help accelerate the retirement of coal plants in the Gippsland region.

BlueFloat and Energy Estate are also developing offshore wind projects off the coasts of New South Wales and Victoria.
