Goldwind has started construction of its own new wind turbine installation vessel as it eyes massive growth of the Chinese offshore wind sector.
The turbine manufacturer believes its vessel – under construction in Nantong, Jiangsu province – will be able to support turbines with power ratings of more than 20MW.
The main hook of the vessel’s primary hook will be capable of lifting 1,600 tonnes to heights of 165 metres, while its auxiliary hook will be able to lift 500 tonnes to heights of 183 metres, Goldwind claimed.
The turbine maker cited estimates that by 2025, China’s annual offshore wind installations could reach 12-17GW.
Goldwind is currently developing a 12MW offshore wind turbine.
