Probe into death at SSE Renewables’ Viking wind farm expands

A public health watchdog has joined the investigation into the death of a 23-year-old man at the construction site of SSE Renewables’ 443MW Viking wind farm.

Liam Macdonald died at the site on the Scottish archipelago of Shetland on 5 June.

Police Scotland had launched an investigation following the death.

The police force has now been joined by the Health and Safety Executive watchdog in investigating Macdonald’s death.

The wind farm is expected online in 2024 and is due to be one of the UK's largest onshore wind farms.
