Statkraft to supply Deutsche Telekom with subsidy-free wind in Germany

Norwegian state-owned renewables developer Statkraft has signed a deal to supply German telecommunications giant Deutsche Telekom with power from wind farms no longer eligible for government subsidies.

It will supply Power & Air Solutions, energy supplier for Deutsche Telekom companies, with 920GWh between 2023 and 2028.

The power will come from a portfolio of 16 wind farms with a combined capacity of more than 150MW.

The projects no longer receive 20-year subsidies under Germany’s Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG).

Gigawatts of German wind farms are nearing the end of their 20-year tariff term under the EEG in the early 2020s, meaning developers are looking for alternative revenue streams.
