MidAmerican Energy cancels wind farm expansion

MidAmerican Energy has cancelled plans to expand its Arbor Hill wind farm in western Iowa following opposition from local landowners.

“Unfortunately, after a thorough review, due to a number of outstanding issues – including some committed landowners wishing to be released from their easement agreements – MidAmerica has determined that we are unable to continue the construction of Arbor Hill,” executive Matt Ott wrote in a letter sent to landowners.

The company had planned to install another 30 turbines at the site, reduced from 52 previously at the request of the authorities. MidAmerican’s Arbor Hill I and Arbor Hill II have a combined installed capacity of 310MW.
