It now owns the 49MW Kiyú project in San Jose in the south of the country and the 53MW Pastorale wind farm in Flores in central Uruguay. They had previously been owned by Spanish developer ACS, with German developer Sowitec owning a minority share in Pastorale.
Kiyu features 16 of Vestas' V113-3.3MW turbines, while Pastorale features 16 of the Danish company's V126-3.3MW turbines. Both wind farms were commissioned in 2017.
The deal more than doubles Canadian pension fund-backed Cubico’s operational wind fleet in Uruguay.
Cubico, which is backed by the Ontario Teachers’ Plan, plans to grow further in the Latin American country through onshore wind, solar PV and hydrogen projects.
