Vattenfall to use Siemens Gamesa’s recyclable blades at Hollandse Kust Zuid offshore wind farm

Swedish renewables developer Vattenfall and chemicals giant BASF plan to use nine of Siemens Gamesa’s recyclable blades at their 1.5GW Hollandse Kust Zuid wind farm in the Dutch North Sea.

Three of the 140 SG 11.0-200 DD turbines will be fitted with the new blades during installation in 2023.

Siemens Gamesa has enabled its blades to be recycled by using a new type of resin that dissolves when the blade is immersed in a heated, slightly acidic solution. This enables the blade’s constituent parts to be separated and recycled individually.

Vattenfall aims to reuse all wind turbine blades from its wind farms by 2030.
