The US government will soon start the permitting process for US Wind’s planned 1.1-2GW offshore wind farm off the coast of Maryland.
The US Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management will tomorrow (8 June) post a notice of intent to prepare an environmental impact statement for the project's construction and operations (COP) plan.
US Wind’s COP is for a 1.1-2GW wind farm, featuring up to 121 turbines, up to four offshore substations and export cable corridors. The plan covers the 1GW-plus of offshore wind capacity for which it has already secured offtake deals, plus supply deals to be secured in future rounds.
The developer is a subsidiary of Italian offshore wind company Renexia. US Wind’s CEO Jeff Grybowski led development of the US' first offshore wind farm, Block Island, as the head of Deepwater Wind.
