Mayflower Wind has filed power purchases agreements for its 1.2GW offshore wind project with Massachusetts’ Department of Public Utilities for approval.
The 20-year deals cover the supply of electricity to Massachusetts’ three largest utilities starting later this decade.
Approval will enable Mayflower – a joint venture of EDPR, Engie and Shell – to invest almost $120 million over 20 years in port and infrastructure improvements, training and education and support for low-income power consumers.
Under the PPAs, Mayflower plans to deliver electricity to a single point – the former Brayton Point coal-fired power plant at Somerset, Massachusetts – which will enable the project to be developed faster.
It eventually plans to add a second connection point in Falmouth, Massachusetts to maximise the potential generation capacity of the lease area.
