Germany’s Enertrag is planning to develop a green hydrogen hub in Uruguay, using wind and solar energy to produce the new fuel and derivatives, the company has announced.
In its first stage, the project would include 350MW of wind and solar PV capacity and an on-site electrolyser with capacity to produce 15,000 tonnes of hydrogen per year. This will be converted into methanol for export.
Costing an estimated €500-700 million, the project could begin commissioning in 2025, a spokesman told “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç.
Enertrag highlighted that Uruguay is a pioneer in the development of wind energy and had the potential to produce enough hydrogen to meet all of Germany’s methanol demand.
