Certification body DNV has awarded Fred Olsen 1848 a statement of feasibility for its Brunel floating wind turbine platform concept.
DNV explained that this means it considers the concept feasible for further development.
Fred Olsen 1848 – which was recently set up as a standalone floating division by Norwegian shipping company Fred Olsen – unveiled its Brunel floating concept earlier this month.
Brunel’s substructure is a column-stabilised unit with three columns connected by submerged horizontal pontoons.
Its rotor-nacelle assembly is supported by two inclined towers meeting at a distance below the nacelle interface.
The structure will use single-point mooring through a turret in order to weather vane.
