GE Renewable Energy buys into 3D printing firm

US turbine maker GE Renewable Energy has announced a minority investment in 3D construction printing firm Cobod International.

The two companies are currently working on developing new production methods using 3D printing to make wind turbine towers more efficient and sustainable.

Cobod provided the 3D printer used at GE’s research facility in Bergen, New York, where it is exploring how to 3D print the concrete base of wind turbine towers.

Neither company has confirmed what percentage of Cobod GE will own, how much it paid for the stake, or whether the transaction has been completed.
