Enel Green Power Brasil has begun commercial operations at its 99MW Fontes dos Ventos wind farm in Pernambuco, north-east Brazil.
The company invested BRL 430 million ($87 million) in the project which consists of 18 GE 5.5 MW turbines. It is located in the municipality of Tacaratu, next to its Fontes dos Ventos wind farm and the Fontes Solar park which have a combined installed capacity of 89.9MW.
EGP is selling power produced by the new wind farm to commercial clients on Brazil’s free power market. It is also supplying power from an up to 11.3 MW portion to Lojas Renner, one of the country’s largest retail chains, under a 15-year power purchase agreement signed last year.
Fonte do Ventos II is one of a series of projects developed during the pandemic, “which increased the challenges involved in the development of projects of this size,” said Roberta Bonomi, head of Enel Green Power Brasil.
