Belgian offshore wind developer Parkwind is targeting projects off the coasts of Australia and New Zealand.
It has hired Peter Lars Spencer as country manager for the two offshore wind newcomers.
Spencer has previously worked at Danish engineering firm, ISC Consulting Engineers, which has helped to deliver offshore substations and offshore wind turbine foundations.
Analysts at Irish financial services firm Forsyth Barr recently expressed doubt at the potential for offshore wind in New Zealand. Senior analyst Andrew Harvey said the technology’s unfavourable economics compared to onshore wind, solar and geothermal, and New Zealand’s lack of demand for large-scale power generation meant offshore wind may struggle in New Zealand.
