Siemens Gamesa has produced first power from its SG 14-222 DD prototype turbine at the Østerild test centre in Denmark.
It is now the world’s joint most powerful operational wind turbine, catching up with GE’s 14MW Haliade-X prototype, which is installed in the Netherlands.
Since first announcing its 14MW offshore wind turbine in May 2020, Siemens Gamesa has received firm and provisional orders to supply its SG 14-222 DD turbine at projects in the UK, the US and Asia Pacific.
The turbine manufacturer has received a firm order to supply the SG 14-222 DD turbine for the 1400MW Sofia (formerly Dogger Bank Teesside B) wind farm off the UK, and is in line to supply it for the 294MW Hai Long 2A , 224MW Hai Long 2B , 504MW Hai Long 3 and 2640MW Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) projects off the coasts of Taiwan and the US.
It plans to begin full market deployment from 2024.
