Vestas has secured firm turbine orders for 253MW of wind capacity that was awarded in a 2017 renewable energy auction.
It will supply four projects being developed by the Wind Energy Development Fund (WEDF) – a joint investment fund created by Fortum Energy and Rusnano – which secured 1GW in the tender four years ago.
The new turbine supply orders follow a framework agreement Vestas and WEDF signed in 2017, whereby Vestas would supply turbines for the 1GW capacity won by the developers.
It has now received orders to supply turbines for more than 800MW of wind capacity awarded in Russian tenders.
The latest batch of projects are due online by the end of 2023.
Vestas will supply and install V126-4.2 MW turbines delivered in 4.55MW power-optimised mode for the 100MW Grazhdanskaya project, the 50MW Ivanovskaya project and the 86MW Pokrovskaya project.
The projects are located in south-west Russia, near the city of Samara. Turbine delivery is planned for the second quarter of 2022 ahead of full commissioning in late 2023.
It will also supply four of its V126-4.2 MW turbines to the 17MW Novoalekseevskaya project in the Volgograd region in south-west Russia.
Turbine delivery is scheduled for the third quarter of 2021, with project commissioning due to take place in the second quarter of 2022.
Meanwhile, the Fortum-Rusnano joint venture recently secured capacity payments for up to 1.6GW of wind farms in Russia’s latest renewables tender.
Nuclear power giant Rosatom’s renewables subsidiary VetroOGK also secured more than 450MW of new wind capacity.
US
Elsewhere, Vestas’ development arm in North America, Steelhead Americas has sold an unnamed 250MW wind farm in the US to an unspecified customer.
The project will include 59 of Vestas’ V150-4.2MW turbines and one V110-2.0MW turbine operating in 2.2MW mode. It is due online by the end of 2022.
