Ørsted has commissioned its largest onshore wind farm to date, the 367MW Western Trail Wind project in north-central Texas, United States.

The project in Wilbarger and Baylor counties consists of 130 of GE’s 2.82-127 turbines.

Ørsted now has more than 2.8GW of onshore wind, solar and battery storage in operation. It re-entered the onshore wind market in 2018.

PepsiCo, Hormel Foods and steel-maker Nucor are buying the majority of the Western Trail project’s output through long-term power purchase agreements. PepsiCo and Hormel Foods are also due to buy power from Ørsted’s 298MW Haystack Wind wind farm in Nebraska, which is due online later this year.

Western Trail is located on property owned by Stan Kroenke, owner of Arsenal Football Club, the Los Angeles Rams American football team, and several other sports teams.
