Vattenfall and Fred Olsen Renewables have formed a 50:50 joint venture, with a view to participating in Scotland’s ongoing offshore wind leasing round.
The pair is planning to bid for sites in the ScotWind round, which could see leases awarded for sites capable of hosting up to 10GW of offshore wind capacity.
But they will face plenty of competition from several other groups. A trio of TotalEnergies, the Green Investment Group and the Renewable Infrastructure Development Group, pairings of BP and German utility EnBW and Simply Blue Energy and Subsea 7, as well as Ideol and Aker Solutions, have also all announced their intention to bid in the ScotWind round.
Vattenfall owns the 93.2MW Aberdeen Bay - European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre (EOWDC) off the east coast of Scotland.
Meanwhile, Fred Olsen Renewables has stakes in 529.7MW of operational Scottish onshore capacity.It had developed the 415MW Forth Array project off south-east Scotland, but abandoned it in 2010 to focus on the onshore sector.
