European Energy has chosen GE Renewable Energy as the supplier for two wind farms in Lithuania planned for sites about 80km north of the capital, Vilnius.

The projects will add 23% of green power capacity to the country鈥檚 current wind power production.

The Cypress turbines will be operated by European Energy at 5.5MW, with a rotor diameter of 158 metres and with blades provided by LM Wind Power, a business owned by GE.

Each turbine will be placed on a 151-metre tower with the installations coming in the second half of 2021.

The turbines will be installed at the 71MW Jonava I & II 补苍诲听49.5MW Anyk拧膷iai developments.

Knud Erik Andersen, European Energy, CEO said: 鈥淭his deal will ensure 121MW of green power capacity and be central to driving the green transition and support the local production of renewable energy in a country currently heavily dependent on the import of energy.鈥

Lithuania aims to produce 100% of the country鈥檚 electricity from renewable sources by 2050, according to the Lithuanian wind power association (LVEA).

To date, there are currently 23 wind parks operating in Lithuania amounting to 480MW capacity.

GE did not immediately respond when asked whether the turbines were running at 5.3MW in power mode, or through a hardware upgrade,聽as the Cypress platform has run at up 5.3MW until now.
