MingYang builds 2GW wind-solar-storage project in China

MingYang has started construction of a huge hybrid project in Inner Mongolia, including 1.7GW of wind power capacity

MingYang installed a prototype of a 5.2MW onshore wind turbine earlier this year

MingYang Smart Energy has started construction of a 2GW wind-solar-storage hybrid project near the city of Tongliao, Inner Mongolia, consisting of 1.7GW of wind power capacity, 300MW solar PV and an energy storage component.

MingYang had initially planned for the project to feature 1GW of wind and 300MW of solar capacity, but has since boosted the size of the project.

However, it has not yet decided the capacity of the energy storage component, a spokeswoman told “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç.

The Chinese turbine manufacturer plans to develop the project alone, she added.

It is not yet clear when Ming Yang aims to commission the project.

Inner Mongolia is a wind-rich region in northern China, with at least 31GW installed at the start of November, according to “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Intelligence, the research and data division of “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç. This accounts for 13% of China’s total 225GW wind power fleet.

MingYang added that the announcement of its project coincides with China “actively promoting” the development of projects using different sources of renewable energy generation.

It aims to build further hybrid projects in China and possibly abroad, a spokeswoman told “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç.
