Engie buys 420MW Australian wind farm

Engie has acquired an under-development 420MW wind farm in New South Wales, Australia – its largest project in the country to date.

It will use up to 70 turbines with power ratings of up to 6MW at its 372MW Hills of Gold project in south-east Australia.

The developer still needs to secure full planning permission for the project and aims to start construction in 2022.

Engie's Australia and New Zealand subsidiary acquired the project from Wind Energy Partners.

Hills of Gold will be Engie’s second wind farm in Australia, following the 119MW Willogoleche project in South Australia.

Its 70 turbines will connect to a 33kV/330kV onsite substation, which in turn will connect to an existing 330kV overhead transmission line between Liddell and Tamworth via a dedicated transmission line from the wind farm.

The developer will upgrade local roads and waterway crossings and set up a community enhancement fund as part of the project.
