SGRE wins 170MW in Chile

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) has won two contracts to supply and maintain 34 of its SG 5.0-145 wind turbines across two sites in Chile making up 170MW in capacity.

SGRE will add 12 5.0MW-145 turbines to the 55 2.1MW-114 machines currently operating at the Atacama desert site

The Cabo Leones III project 110MW extension, which forms part of the 600MW Cabo Leones cluster located in Chile’s Atacama Desert, has turbines ranging from 2MW to the latest SGRE 4.X platform. Now, SGRE will supply Ibereólica Renovables, a Spanish independent power producer, 22 of its SG5.0-145 turbines.

The project is expected to start operations no sooner than June next year, with SGRE’s delivery due by December this year.

The turbine maker has also received a new 60MW order to extend Chile’s 115MW Cabo Leones 1 wind project at Comuna de Freirina in the north of the country. As part of a joint venture between French utility EDF Renewables Chile and Ibereólica Renovables, SGRE will supply, transport and install 12 of its SG 5.0-145 MW turbines.

The wind farm is currently equipped with 55 of SGRE’s 2.1-114 MW turbines.

SGRE will ship the turbines between November 2020 and January 2021 with a commissioning date slated for July next year.Â
