SGRE signs first multi-brand offshore service deal

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) has secured a contract to service the 32 Senvion turbines at the 203W Trianel Windpark Borkum II project in the German North Sea. It is SGRE’s first offshore service agreement for another manufacturer and the first offshore deal to maintain Senvion turbines since it acquired assets from the German manufacturer.

Installation of Trianel Windpark Borkum II was completed in May 2020. It consists of 32 Senvion 6.33MW turbines.

Siemens Gamesa will service the turbines for five years, with the maintenance regime due to start on 1 August when the project is fully commissioned.

Deutsche Windtechnik had replaced Senvion as the project’s operations and maintenance provider in October 2019 on an interim basis during the installation phase. It will service the turbines ahead of full commissioning, scheduled for August.

The latest agreement is the first SGRE service deal for Senvion offshore turbines since it finalised the deal to acquire the German firm’s onshore service business and intellectual property in January 2020.

Since then, Siemens Gamesa has been awarded a number of additional onshore service contracts for Senvion turbines.

203MW Trianel Windpark Borkum II  is owned by German municipality utility group Trianel and 17 member municipal utilities (37.99%), regional energy firm EWE (37.5%), and a joint venture between the City of Zurich Electricity Company and Fontavis (24.51%).

Project completion was delayed by Senvion’s insolvency procedures and missed out on deadlines to claim support payments under Germany’s renewable energy law, and so its developers face reduced revenues from the wind farm.
