Video: Building the WindFloat Atlantic project

With installation of the third and final turbine now complete, a video series documents the key phases of installation for EDP’s 25MW WindFloat Atlantic offshore wind project, which uses Principle Power’s semi-submersible floating foundations.

The final turbine was towed out to the WindFloat Atlantic site in late May and fully installed in June

The 25MW WindFloat Atlantic  comprises three MHI Vestas V164-8.4 turbines — the first of which was installed in October 2019, the second in January 2020, and the final one in June.

The turbines are installed on Principle Power’s ballasted, triangular, semi-submersible foundations 20km from the north-west Portuguese coast in water depths of 100 metres.

Once fully connected and commissioned, the wind farm will generate enough energy to power 60,000 households.
